While having a system plumbed with an overflow and sump certainly has its advantages, this isn’t always practical. In some situations, space constraints or aquarium size can make this a challenge.
Key Features
- Ventilation slots in the filter cover and aeration grooves in the outflow ensure that the water that is returned to the tank is fully oxygenated and maximizes gas exchange during filtration.
- The pump pushes water up in the filter basket, comes through the bottom of the basket and is pushed out. A bottom-to-top flow ensures that water comes into contact with all filter media and cannot go around filter media such as with suspension filters with a back-to-front flow.
- The pump is also insulated and silent, making it ideal for office or dining room aquariums, and has extremely low energy consumption for the amount of output – the large Tidal 110 filter uses only 12 watts.
- Over time, filtration media can become clogged with waste and prevent water from flowing through it. When this happens in the tidal filter, water is led around the filter and returned to the aquarium via a drain to the side. When this happens, the diverted water pushes up the blue maintenance monitor on top of the filter, letting the aquarium guard know that the filter media must be cleaned.
- The basket is designed with raised slots that catch dirt instead of dropping it through the filter when the power is stopped.
- A heater can be attached to the side with an optional heating clip, which makes it easier to distribute the heated water throughout the aquarium.
- The adjustable telescopic inlet ensures that water can be pumped from any level of the tank without having to stop the filter or bother with spare parts.
- Double water intake. The surface foamer collects the water from just below the surface where separated fish oils accumulate and deeper into the tank and remove floating debris. A rotary knob on the side of the filter controls how much current the underwater inlet is relative to the skimmer.
- The flow on the pump is adjustable using the dial on the front, from the powerful full flow of 450 gallons per hour on the Tidal 110 to a soft 90 gallons per hour on the same filter. Water circulates inside the filter, so if the flow is turned down, the pump will not wear or problems will arise in the filter.
- The filter basket has an enormous capacity to keep the filtration media of your choice in the desired configuration (no cartridges)
- A leveler at the bottom of the filter allows the filter to adapt to different aquarium styles.
